Godfather actor Gianni Russo talks about James Caan

GIANNI RUSSO, WHO PLAYED CARLO RIZZI IN "THE GODFATHER," CLAIMED THAT HE HAD NO CONTACT WITH JAMES CAAN 

after filming ended, or even before that, until the late actor asked for a part in one of his films.

The Little Italy native claimed that when casting for the 1999 football

"Any Given Sunday," he received a call from Caan's agency.

"He said, 'You know, Jimmy would be great in this movie,'" Russo, 78, said of the Al Pacino-led film. He is a huge sports fan."

"I said, 'Do you think I would hire James Caan?'" Russo responded.

Russo responded. I'd never cast Jimmy Caan in anything.' He was so rude to me."

Russo claims that Caan, who played Sonny Corleone, the character's brother-in-law,
